1. Is Stoneware microwave safe?

It sure is. Dixie Stoneware Distrubuted by Burlodge not only promotes even heating but it does not deform and get wet and unsafe to carry like paper plates. The 8 inch plate and small bowl fit easily inside small pantry type microwaves, not like some 9 inch plates.

2. Can Stoneware be recycled?

Stoneware is not necessarily recycled but because of the fact that it is made of 55% Stone, the product is very acceptable at land fill.

3. Is Stoneware available in any other colors?

The special healthcare line up of Stoneware products is only available in black at this time.

4. How easy is it to remove the plates and bowls from one another?

The plates, bowls, and lids all have what we call ‘stacking grooves’. This eliminates the Dixie Stoneware from getting stuck together. We developed this special feature because plated meal assembly lines must meet strict efficiency quotas or meals per minute ratios. The easy removal of a plate or bowl or lid form the stack facilitates speed at tray assembly.

5. Does the Stoneware material properties deplete over time if stored for long periods?

No

6. Is Stoneware and the Cutlery capable of going through a pulper?

Yes. It all goes in and pulps very well.

7. Is the Perfect Touch Cup rethermable and if not then how do you suggest we get hot beverages to the patient in an Emerg Therm situation?

We do not suggest that the Perfect Touch Cup be used inside a retherm trolley but we suggest that the perfect Touch cups and lids can be used as you pour hot beverages at the bedside or in mass at your hot beverage pouring station (and then bring them up to patients). The Perfect Touch Cup has great insulating capability but the gripping quality it gives those that may be weakened from treatments or surgeries is far superior to any other single use cup on the market.

8. Is Stoneware safe to put in a freezer and then into a microwave or retherm unit - will it crack when frozen?

It will work just fine if taken from the freezer to the microwave and should not crack unless the Stoneware is dropped or hit with force from the sides

9. What is the quality grade of the napkin in the cutlery pack?

The napkin is 2 ply white, 12 x 16 inches, folded.

10. Does my retherm cycle need to be adjusted when using single use trayware?

In an emergency situation, Burlodge recommends that you use the existing retherm cycle but that you end the retherm manually 10% short of the exact end time, however, if you are using an advanced Burlodge Meal Retherm System that is networked then you can reprogram your trolleys for a 10% shortened retherm time on the fly at your computer terminal. You will find when using Dixie Stoneware, that traditional retherm cycles need not be as long. Thus, if you use Dixie Stoneware for everyday use in a retherm application, you should be using 10% less power and 10% less retherm use which means that for every 5 retherm cycles, you will get one more than you would normally get out of your equipment with traditional retherm cycle times based on high heat plastics or china – this could equate to 1.5 extra years of operating life of your retherm equipment (based on a 15 year life expectancy @ 1,095 retherm cycles per year).

11. Will Stoneware be okay on traditional pellet systems?

The use of Dixie Stoneware in traditional pellet systems is only limited by the size of your pellet and plate system. The minimum requirement is an 8 inch plate system and yes, the Stoneware will work against the hot surface of the pellet.

12. Is EMERG THERM only applicable in Retherm System applications?

No. You can use this excellent contingency planning method in all types of meal tray assembly processes such as Room Service, Hot Beltlines, and Microwave heating. Sure, you can use paper plates and plastic bowls, but will you be able to serve meals with style and efficiently and safely. We think, and our test results show it, that Dixie Stoneware is the only alternative available that allows today’s operator to showcase their foods in an emergency with style, while promoting food safety, food handling safety, excellent temperature maintenance, and efficient plating processes.
